Cervix screening helps identify if you are at risk for developing cervical cancer. If you have a cervix and are between the ages of 25 and 69, you should be getting screened every 3 or 5 years.
There are two different ways to get screened:
- Self-screening at home
- PAP test with a primary care provider
Cervix Self-screening
In BC, most people who need cervix screening are encouraged to self-screen. Cervix self-screening involves 4 steps:
- Order a self-screening kit by phone (1-877-702-6566) or online.
- Follow the instructions included in the kit to take a vaginal swab.
- Drop off your completed kit at your nearest post office.
- Get your results (also sent to your Family Doctor or Nurse Practitioner) in 8 weeks.
PAP Test
Some people are encouraged to visit a health care provider for a PAP test instead self-screening. If your Family Doctor or Nurse Practitioner recommends a PAP test, or if you are not comfortable self-screening, you can book a PAP test when it is time to get screened.
- Many health care providers offer PAP tests
- If you don’t have a Family Doctor or Nurse Practitioner, here are two options for booking a PAP test in Surrey-North Delta:
- PAP Clinic at HarmonyCare Family Practice: Call 604-427-6669 to book an appointment.
- Freya Women’s Medical Centre: Contact Freya to book an appointment or request a referral from your primary care provider.
