What You Should Know

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and You

RSV is a contagious respiratory illness that is most common in our community during the cold months. It is a common cause of respiratory infections, especially in children.

In most older children and adults, RSV symptoms are similar to a cold and usually go away in one to two weeks. Sometimes, RSV can cause more severe infections like pneumonia.

People who are more at risk of severe RSV include: premature babies, children younger than 6 months, children with chronic respiratory or cardiac conditions, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems.

These resources can help you learn what symptoms to expect, how to prevent RSV and when to visit your doctor.
